Genius I is the exciting journey to the longings, dreams and desires of mankind. In a vast panorama, the exhibition shows the significant steps made by mankind, brings to life the genius of the inventor and even has demonstration stations to present the innovative approaches adopted by the inventions. From time immemorial, genius has been the divine embodiment of the power of intellect and ideas at work in mankind. Genius is the greatest myth of mankind. Genius is creativity personified, the engine of the world, the driving force of progress. The genius of Archimedes, Galileo Galilei, Leonardo da Vinci and Albert Einstein has shaped our world as well as changed it. The Völklinger Hütte World Cultural Heritage Site is a magical place, where the future has been and will continue to be redesigned from the forces of the past.

The key fields of human inventiveness: the basis of our civilisation, domination of the world, mastery over life and death, limitless mobility, electricity, infinite forces, limitless communication, the limits of hearing and seeing are presented with their inventions and their inventors.
These range from the invention of the wheel (1600 BC), the letterpress (1420) and the light bulb (1854) to the invention of the car (1886), the aeroplane (1903), the MP3 audio format for MP3 players (1987), the Internet (1989) and the deciphering of human DNA (2003). The exhibition also picks out the invention of the condom (1912) or the birth control pill (1959) as inventions that have changed our society.

A comprehensive catalogue is being published for the exhibition, showing all the inventors and their inventions.
