Duane Hanson (1925-1996) is one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century indebted to Expressionism. His synthetic, life-size figures are lifelike in every detail and are all directly cast from human models. Hanson was influenced by Pop Art and took his subjects from American everyday life. Housewives, construction workers, waitresses, car salesmen, caretakers, middle and lower class Americans are the models for his sculptures. As the finale of the Luxemburg and Greater Region European Cultural Capital 2007, the Völklinger Hütte World Cultural Heritage Site is exhibiting 22 groups of the work of this internationally renowned Pop Artist. The Völklinger Hütte World Cultural Heritage Site is the only exhibition station in Central Europe for the Duane Hanson world tour.
A catalogue is being published for the exhibition of about 190 pages, four-colour throughout.
