Do you know the Lorelei? How many football clubs are there in Germany? What significance does football have? How do Germans face their past? How do we treat foreigners? What is the German language actually like? What public holidays are there? What feasts are celebrated? What role does work play in German life? What kind of behaviour is maintained by the Germans?
Germany booms but an understanding of Germany through knowledge of its history, cultural and political system is not increasing at the same rate. The exhibition is structured into 26 letters according to the (German) alphabet beginning with A as in Alltag (the everyday), B for Brauchtum (tradition), onto D how Deutsch (German) is spoken, through N as in Nazis out!, V for Vereine (football clubs) with Z as in Zukunft (the future). The prefixed individual themes are a self-contained part of the exhibition which gives hard facts informing on subjects such as the history, politics, economy and culture of the Federal Republic of Germany. 2009 the Federal Republic of Germany celebrated its 60th birthday. The date also recalls the founding of the German Democratic Republic and the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The touring exhibition organised by the Federal Agency for Civic Education and the Goethe Institute was first exhibited on 1st July 2009, at the Federal Foreign Office. Following the Station World at the Cultural Heritage Site at the Volklingen Ironworks “Germany for Beginners” then goes on a world tour. It commences in September 2010 in Peking.
