The exhibition 'Treasures from the 1001 Nights' follows the fantasies of the East and shows clearly that the cultural exchange between Europe and the Ottoman Empire was for centuries a mutual affair.

The Turkish menace and the Turkish Wars made their mark on Europe. Yet important cultural goods such as coffee, tobacco, tulips and lilac were imported from the East.

The exhibition in the World Cultural Heritage Site at the Völklingen Ironworks comprises exhibits from Vienna's Art History Museum, the Dresden State Art Collections, the State Museum of Baden in Karlsruhe and the Hungarian National Museum in Budapest. These exhibits relate to important chapters in the cultural history of East and West.
