April 9 to November 5, 2017
From Sunday April 9, 2017, the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site will be presenting the 4th “UrbanArt Biennale® 2017”, with 100 artists from 17 countries across four continents exhibiting their works on a parcours of 100,000 square meters. The “UrbanArt Biennale® 2017” will center around the 10,000-square-meter Möllerhalle, an ore silo dating from the beginning of the twentieth century, and also feature numerous fixed installations across the Völklinger Hütte’s 600,000 square meters of grounds.
Urban art is the 21st century’s most prevalent new art form. And the UrbanArt Biennale at the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site is the largest urban art project in the world, offering insights not only into today’s global urban art scene, but also into the urban art scene in Latin America and the interventional nature of urban art 2.0. Visitors to the exhibition will experience the works of artists such as Banksy (GB), OX (F), Jordan Seiler (USA) and Vermibus (E), whose interventional image strategies penetrate deep into the consciousness of beholders.
For the last seven years, the European Center for Art and Indutrial Culture Völklingen/Saarland has been presenting the latest movements and developments occurring within this 21st century art form. The 150 most important artists of this genre have already exhibited their works at the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site. The 4th “UrbanArt Biennale® 2017”, as with the last such event, will be accompanied by a series of lectures at which international experts and researchers will elucidate their current scientific positions on urban art.
