25 March - 4 November 2018
Comprising a collection of highly stirring images, the exhibition “Banksy’s Dismaland & Others - Photographs by Barry Cawston” examines the phenomenon that is Banksy – mysterious phantom figure and undisputed star of the international urban art scene at the same time. His projects “Dismaland” and “Walled Off Hotel”, launched in 2015 and 2017 respectively, garnered more international attention than any art project. Barry Crawston’s series of photographs marks the first time that these two projects have been presented in connection with each other.
The renowned Banksy project “Dismaland” (2015) turned everything on its head, creating a “bemusement park” in place of an amusement park in the British seaside town of Weston-super-Mare near Bristol.
The exhibition includes photographs of Banksy’s “Walled Off Hotel” (2017), a hotel in Bethlehem with the “worst view” in the world: the barrier wall between Israel and Palestine. It will also exhibit exciting photographs of Völklinger Hütte taken by Barry Cawston during his first visit here.
