UrbanArt Biennale® 2015

They spray graffiti on facades, paint stencils on walls and paste huge wall surfaces all over with paper collages. Their art is rebellious, unsettling, pleasing and popular. Since around the turn of the millennium a new art movement has formed worldwide, which mixes into the collective structure of the city and draws ever more irresistibly the art market into it.

In the 2000s, Street Art had already brought forth many successful artists and proponents who, with their art, had proclaimed the city to be the “the greatest gallery in the world” furnishing it with subversive and subcultural potential. UrbanArt is an art movement, whose history, significance and potential is directly connected to the worldwide dissemination through media and the doers themselves that exist and constantly grow in number, regardless of national borders or cultural differences. The World Cultural Heritage Site at the Völklingen Ironworks offers UrbanArt a regular forum with the UrbanArt Biennial.
With 120 works created by 80 artists from 21 countries and 6 continents is the UrbanArt Biennale® 2015 the biggest work exhibition of UrbanArt so far.
